Eye with polycoria (multiple pupils)
Polycoria, much like many other diseases, results from either a congenital or acquired cause.
If it is congenital, usually the genetic defect results in either absence or failure of the optic nerve. Therefore, the patient is blind in that eye from birth.
When it is acquired (e.g. after trauma) the brain is developed in its visual cortex. This means that the infiltrating iris will just darken the spots seen by the brain. These are called scotomas. So although these are technically multiple pupils, they really are just reactive tissue causing interference of your visual field.
